Our Roof Coating Services Are Built for Performance and Longevity

General Protective Coating and Restoration

We restore aged or weathered roofs using premium-grade protective coatings that extend roof lifespan. Our system strengthens deteriorated surfaces, improves appearance, and prevents further corrosion. It’s ideal for commercial roofs showing signs of fatigue or ageing.

Rust Protection

Our anti-corrosion system can be applied over existing rust or used as a preventative treatment. It stops rust in its tracks, even in high-moisture or salt-air environments. With 200% elasticity and high impact resistance, it’s a long-term solution for steel and metal surfaces.

Heat Reflective Coating

Reduce internal temperatures and energy costs with our solar-reflective topcoats. These coatings bounce heat away from your roof, keeping interiors cooler in summer. They’re especially effective on warehouses, commercial sheds, and offices with metal roofing.

Waterproofing

We apply seamless waterproof coatings to prevent leaks, protect against water ingress and reduce long-term structural damage. Our waterproofing layer creates a high-strength barrier over your roof surface. It’s an efficient alternative to replacement for weather-damaged roofs.

Asbestos Encapsulation

Instead of removing asbestos roofing, we seal and secure it using our proven encapsulation coating system. This reduces risk, meets compliance standards and prevents fibre exposure. It's a safer, cost-effective alternative to full removal.

Harry and the team completed a commercial roofing project at our office last week. They were all fantastic to deal with, updating us throughout the works, and put in a lot of care to make the process as seamless as possible. Thanks guys - couldn't recommend more highly!
- Emma Bester
The team at Melbourne Protective Coatings went above and beyond my expectations. Their team were very easy to deal with, thorough, and professional in their approach to repairing, sealing and coating all of our rusted box gutters, and entire upper roof of our office warehouse. The solution has effectively prolonged the life of our roof for at least the next 10 years. Thank you Harry and team.
- Brad Shannon
I am based in Brisbane and contacted Melbourne protective coatings to seal a small retail center roof that had multiple leaks and rust. The guys were a pleasure to deal with, did everything they quoted with a minimum of fuss and on time. We will definitely use them again as the job was perfect.
- Russell Bowkett
Harry and his team professionally treated and sealed our rusting metal roof on a block of 6 units.
It saved us replacing the roof at a fraction of the cost and they give a 10 year guarantee and possibly lasting another 20 years.
We were also prepared to replace the gutters but surprisingly Harry offered to treat and seal them at no extra charge.
Such amazing value and generosity from this easy to deal with company.
I would highly recommend them anytime.
Thanks Harry and Team
- Joe Zammit
Harry and his team at Melbourne Protective Coatings did an amazing job to restore our rusty roof using their anti-corrosion waterproof membrane. Harry is an awesome guy and a pleasure to work with. From discussing options, putting together a quote, finding a block of warm, dry days in the middle of winter to start the work, and even doing some extra painting for free, Harry and his team made this so easy. The quality of their work is excellent and was so much cheaper than a new roof. I would highly recommend Harry and his team for any painting work, especially if it’s something technical like properly restoring a rusty roof.
- Daniel Broughton
Harry and his Team did an amazing job restoring the rusted roof on our apartment block roof saving owners $$$$ on an entire roof replacement. Harry liaised with the OC walking us step by step through the process.

MPC were incredibly communicative and responsive to any a needs of owners and tenants. From start to finish they went above and beyond to provide and deliver a high quality finish and customer service.

Would highly recommend MPC for any painting project, and will be using them for all our future painting works.

Thanks guys! You’re legends!
- Laura White
Melbourne Protective Coatings recently repaired a retail roof I manage, and we haven’t had a single leak since. Excellent work and a budget-friendly alternative to a full replacement. Highly recommend Harrison and his team.
- Bertrand Bienvenu
We got Melbourne Protective Coatings to do a restoration job before it became a replacement job on our roof. The aim was to stop some leaks, prevent further corrosion and to provide some thermal insulation. We got all that.

Harry turned up on time a gave us a clear explanation of the process and time required. The guys turned up on time and were as non-intrusive as they could be. They also communicated each step of the way what would be done and how it would effect us. A pleasure to work with on our restoration. I could not recommend them highly enough.
- Dale Thompson
We engaged Melbourne Protective Coatings to undertake a large project for us that had been problematic for quite some time and had several other companies tangled in confusion and despair.

Melbourne Protective Coatings are 100% professional in every way, they put together a strategy to carry out the project and outperformed my expectations everyday. Anyone associated with the company while carrying out the project was professional and respectfully a pleasure to work with.

We have been in construction a long time and it’s rare to come across a company of motivated professionals like Melbourne Protective Coatings that perform so well in their given field.

I can honestly say, they come highly recommend by me personally and from our company.

Looking forward to working with them again in the future.

The Steps We Take

Each roofing membrane system is installed according to the manufacturer's requirements and although each has slightly different application steps the main steps remain the same.
Step 1

Clean & Surface Preparation

Just like any coating system from a simple DIY painting project at home to a high-end car paint job, surface preparation is key to achieving the best adhesion possible and roof membranes are no different.

Initially, all projects are cleaned using high-powered pressure washers (ref right) to ensure the roof’s surface is clean from grime and debris usually built up by years of neglect. During this stage, it’s important to understand that issues such as minor leaks that may have been falling under the radar are often identified by the action of cleaning with large amounts of water. The deep clean undertaken essentially is a big stress test for your roof’s water flow capabilities. Although this can be an annoyance that may require some additional rectification as qualified commercial and domestic painters we can provide assistance with any internal water damage caused by this process giving you peace of mind that you won't be left in the lurch.

Additional Waterproofing Measures* (Additional costs may apply)

Although our systems are all premium-made products sometimes a range of additional waterproofing steps may be required to ensure your roof is waterproof and sealed correctly. These measures range from simple flexible membrane tapes embedded in the system itself (ref image right) to seal small penetrations to full flashing installs and sealing for large penetrations (ref next page). A standard level of taping is always included in every price given although some roofs do require extensive tape application. If major flashing and taping is needed this work is always outlined in the official quote*.

*The need for such measures isn’t always included in the initial estimate as an on-site inspection is required either by drone or personal inspection for such measures to be deemed necessary.

Additional waterproofing measures | Flashing Installation

Major points of ingress are identified by drone, in-person inspection and throughout the cleaning process. See images below depicting the identification by red markings, the measurements taken needed to cover the penetration and then finally the install of the flashing with back sealing both the surface and surrounds
Step 2

Priming the surface

Once your roof’s surface is clean from dirt and grime its important to lay down an initial primer coat, this needs to be completed within a short time frame to not allow dirt to build back up. Before any coating is applied usually the use of powered air blowers and brooms to remove any dust or loose debris that might have settled on the surface, each system has its own steps and some systems like Noxyde are self-priming, it's important to understand each system as the coating of each require their own unique coating depths, drying times and re-coat windows.
Step 3

Top Coat

Top coats are then applied in accordance with the re-coat time determined by the system. Some systems such as Noxyde require alternating colours applied which helps ensure no low or missed spots are left. It's important to achieve the cleanest finish possible when applying all layers to leave the surface looking like new or even better than new. We come across failed coats as seen in the images below.

Safety First

Melbourne Protective Coatings are unwavering advocates for both exceptional workmanship and uncompromising safety standards. In every roofing project we undertake, we now incorporate live-edge guard‑rail systems to maintain compliance with Worksafe Victoria's mandatory fall-protection measures-especially on pitched roofs.

We utilise a variety of safety controls for efficient and secure roofing and painting operations:

All roofing division employees are trained by the Positive Training Academy and hold current Working at Heights (RIIWHS204E) tickets.

MPC holds full WorkCover registration (16881750) for all employees and is fully insured with Allianz public liability coverage ($20 million, policy 118U357018BPK), providing complete peace of mind.

Projects on pitched roofing profiles always include specialised anchor points along with live-edge guard‑rails-a form of temporary rail system-to ensure passive fall-prevention as required under Worksafe regulations.

Worksafe expressly mandates physical edge protection on sloping roofs where falls from height (≥ 2 m) present a risk

We prepare and follow detailed Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), in line with high-risk construction protocols, ensuring all tasks are planned with effective supervision

By combining the correct use of live-edge guard‑rails with rigorous training and anchored systems, Melbourne Protective Coatings not only achieves top-quality results but also safeguards every team member - fully aligned with Worksafe Victoria's fall-prevention mandates.

Specialised anchor points are used on roofs with pitched profiles!

Frequently Asked Questions About Roof Coatings

What can you coat with your system?
We can coat almost any surface including metal, wood, or concrete. This includes structural steel, metal roofs, beams, handrails, bolts, screws, exposed fasteners, junction boxes and more. Whether you’re protecting a commercial warehouse or industrial machinery, our versatile coating system adapts to the structure. Contact us for a free site inspection to confirm the best fit for your asset.
Do you only coat existing rust?
No. While our system is ideal for treating active corrosion, it’s just as effective as a preventative layer. Applying it before rust sets in is a smart way to future-proof your structure against costly repairs.
Can it handle coastal weather?
Yes. Our coating system is certified to corrosion class C5-M, making it suitable for harsh marine environments and exposed rooftops. It’s elastic, UV-stable, and impact-resistant to handle intense sun, salt air and wind.
What colours can I choose from?
Our standard colours include light grey, clay grey and off-white, ideal for commercial buildings. For aesthetic flexibility, we can overcoat the surface using Dulux Weathershield in virtually any colour tint. This means you can protect and personalise your building in one process.
What don’t you coat?
Due to the system’s required thickness and specific curing profile, we don’t coat items like boat hulls, automotive parts, domestic appliances, small pumps or internal decorative walls. If you're unsure, give us a call, we’re happy to review your project.
Can it help reduce the heat in my warehouse?
Absolutely. Our heat-reflective off-white finish has helped warehouses in Bayswater lower their internal temperatures by several degrees. This results in more comfortable workspaces and lower energy bills for air conditioning.
How long does it last?
Our system has a 10-year product guarantee and a 15-year service life when applied correctly. Plus, we back it with our own 6-year workmanship warranty for extra peace of mind. Ask us about our maintenance program to extend performance even further.
Can it be applied on copper?
Yes. Our system bonds well to copper and other non-ferrous metals including aluminium, zinc, galvanised steel and more. It provides a protective barrier without interfering with the appearance or function of those surfaces.
Is your product new?
It’s new to Australia but proven internationally. Originally developed in Europe in the 1970s, it has protected major infrastructure worldwide, including the cables of the Golden Gate Bridge, for decades.
How long will it take to apply?
Most projects take just a few days depending on access and roof size. The system is self-priming and can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray, speeding up project timelines with minimal disruption.
Can you spray my whole roof or just rusted areas?
We can do both. In many cases, full-roof application is more cost-effective than spot treatments and prevents patchy ageing or future issues. For businesses, it also avoids downtime and tenant disruption from future repairs.
How can I tell if my high roof is rusty if I can’t see it?
We offer a complimentary drone inspection using high-definition video to identify rust, leaks, and coating damage on elevated or hard-to-reach roofs. This gives you a clear picture without climbing a ladder, and allows us to recommend the right solution with confidence.
