Client: Alsco Uniforms
Location: Mulgrave, Victoria
Industry: Commercial Laundry Services
Service: Commercial Roof Waterproofing & Rust Protection
Roof Area: 4,400 m²
Main Challenge: A deteriorating roof with active leaks, spreading rust and continuous lint contamination from extraction vents.
Solution: Installed a Noxyde Anti-Corrosion Waterproofing Membrane with StormShield Essentials waterproofing measures.
Outcome: The roof was protected with a durable waterproofing and anti-corrosion membrane system designed to address leaks, inhibit further rust development and provide long-term protection for the commercial facility.
When Alsco Uniforms' commercial facility in Mulgrave developed roof leaks and spreading rust, the deteriorating roof required specialist attention. Left untreated, the ongoing deterioration risked compromising the roof's performance and increasing maintenance requirements.
What made this project particularly challenging was the environment. As the facility processes large volumes of commercial towels, sheets and other bedding, airborne lint from the extraction vents continually settled on the roof.Â
To ensure reliable adhesion between coating layers, the roof required multiple cleaning stages throughout the waterproofing process.

Working across the Alsco Uniforms roof required specific controls for working at heights. MPC's site safety plan specified Live Edge rails as the primary control in areas where work was being completed, with temporary anchor points and harnesses used where edge rails were not present.
A fall-arrest rescue plan was also established before work commenced, outlining emergency response procedures and the use of an EWP or ladders for rescue where appropriate.
Melbourne Protective Coatings completed the project using a structured installation process that included roof preparation, reinforcement where required and the application of a commercial roof waterproofing and rust protection system.
The project began with an initial clean of the roof before loose screws and roof sheets were re-tensioned and secured where required. This prepared the surface for the membrane application that followed.
Specialised reinforcement tape was applied where required, followed by StormShield Essentials waterproofing measures across the roof.

A full first coat of Noxyde Anti-Corrosion Waterproofing Membrane was applied, followed by the required waterproofing measures and a second full coat of Noxyde.Â
Because lint from the facility's extraction vents continued to accumulate on the roof, additional cleaning was carried out during the coating process to ensure adhesion between layers.
The Alsco Uniforms project required a coating system capable of addressing two problems at the same time: water ingress and corrosion.

Noxyde is a high-build anti-corrosion acrylic coating that forms a flexible, waterproof barrier over metal surfaces. Its 200% elasticity allows it to expand and contract with temperature changes, while its corrosion resistance meets ISO 12944 standards.
These waterproofing and anti-corrosion properties aligned with the conditions identified at the Mulgrave facility, where the roof was experiencing both leaks and spreading rust.
StormShield Essentials is a reinforced waterproofing and roof protection system designed for ageing roofs requiring increased leak prevention, membrane reinforcement and long-term protection.
For the Alsco project, StormShield Essentials waterproofing measures were incorporated across the entire roof as part of the specified scope of works.

With the waterproofing and anti-corrosion system installed, the Alsco Uniforms facility in Mulgrave was left with a roof protected by two full coats of Noxyde Anti-Corrosion Waterproofing Membrane, together with StormShield Essentials waterproofing measures across the roof.
The completed system addressed the two issues that prompted the project - water ingress and spreading rust - by combining waterproofing and corrosion protection within the same roof protection solution.
