As part of ongoing renovations at The Corner Hotel in Alexandra, the owners wanted the exterior of the building to complement the improvements being made inside the venue. While the interior spaces were being refreshed, the exterior required attention to ensure the property presented consistently and professionally.
Years of exposure to the elements had left sections of the building looking weathered and in need of refurbishment. The goal was to improve the hotel's overall presentation while providing long-term protection against Alexandra's changing weather conditions.
Melbourne Protective Coatings was engaged to deliver a complete exterior repaint that would enhance the appearance of the property and help protect the building for years to come.
Before work commenced, our team carried out a detailed assessment of the hotel's exterior to identify any issues that could affect the quality and longevity of the refurbishment.
We identified weather-related deterioration and ageing surfaces caused by years of exposure to the elements. While the building remained structurally sound, the existing finish no longer reflected the standard of the recent upgrades taking place throughout the venue.
To achieve a durable, professional result, we recommended a comprehensive preparation and repainting system designed to improve presentation and provide long-term protection against Alexandra's changing weather conditions.
To achieve the desired outcome, several challenges needed to be addressed throughout the project:
Weathered exterior surfaces that required extensive preparation before new coatings could be applied.
Restoring the building's appearance while ensuring the refurbishment would stand up to ongoing weather exposure.
Accessing elevated areas safely and efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
Achieving an exterior finish that complemented the recent renovations taking place throughout the venue.
Providing long-term protection against Alexandra's changing weather conditions.

Based on our assessment, we recommended a complete exterior repaint supported by thorough surface preparation to ensure a durable, long-lasting finish.
The objective was to improve the hotel's presentation, complement the recent renovations, and provide reliable protection against Alexandra's changing weather conditions. By addressing the condition of the existing surfaces before repainting, we could help maximise coating performance and longevity.
This approach provided the hotel with a refreshed exterior appearance while helping to protect the building from ongoing environmental exposure.

To support the exterior refurbishment, we selected a Dulux coating system suited to commercial exterior surfaces and long-term weather exposure.

We used Dulux 1Step Prep to prime and seal the existing surfaces before repainting. This helped create a consistent foundation for the coating system and supported strong adhesion across the exterior.

For the exterior wall surfaces, Dulux Acratex AcraShield was selected to deliver a durable, long-lasting finish. Its high-build coating properties made it well suited to improving the building's appearance while providing additional protection against weather exposure.

Doors, windows and trim areas were finished with Dulux Weathershield, providing a tough, hard-wearing coating capable of standing up to the elements while maintaining a professional appearance.

Selected internal wall areas were finished with Dulux Wash&Wear Low Sheen to provide a clean, durable finish suitable for high-traffic spaces within the venue.

Dulux Aquanamel Semi Gloss was applied to selected interior and trim surfaces where a smooth, durable finish was required. Its hard-wearing properties made it well suited to areas requiring ongoing durability and ease of maintenance.Ā
Careful planning played an important role in the successful delivery of this project.
Before work commenced, our team carried out detailed safety assessments and project planning to ensure the refurbishment could be completed safely and efficiently.
Key project management considerations included:
Detailed safety assessments prior to commencing works.
Project planning to identify potential hazards and streamline delivery.
Use of a 26-foot scissor lift to safely access elevated areas.
Coordinating works to minimise disruption to the venue.
Maintaining safe work practices throughout the project.
Through proactive planning and effective project management, we were able to complete the exterior refurbishment efficiently while maintaining a high standard of safety and workmanship.
